A Qatari appeals court has quashed or commuted the death sentence of eight ex-Indian Navy personnel arrested on charges of espionage in Qatar, commuting the death sentences to life imprisonment. Eight former Indian officials were sentenced to death in October, after which the Government of India appealed the sentences. The Government of India welcomed the judgment of the Appellate court of Qatar. The eight former Indian naval officers were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of First Instance of Qatar on charges of espionage. The decision to commute the death sentences was welcomed by the Government of India. The CEO of the company is retired RAF Squadron Leader, Khamis al Azmi.

Eight former Indian Navy officers detained in Qatar have been put on death row. A Qatari court sentenced the eight ex-NCOs to death last year, prompting the Indian government to express shock. The eight former NCOS have been in custody in Qatar since August of last year. The Qatari authorities have not yet released any details on the charges against the eight former NCOS.

However, media reports suggest that the eight NCOS were accused of espionage. All NCOS were working in Qatar under the aegis of a private company. The company reportedly provides training and consultancy services to Qatar’s Emiri Navy. The company’s official website states that its CEO is retired Royal Oman Air Force (RAFO) Squadron Leader Khamis al Azmi.
